Accused horse thief, Jaci Rae Jackson, and her mother, Wendie Cox, will go to trial for arson after a judge ruled today there is probable cause in the case. Both are charged in the Oklahoma arson case which is unrelated to the Arkansas five horse theft.
In August 2010, Cox's home caught fire. Authorities determined the cause to be arson.
According to the probable cause affidavit Cox told a woman that "she could not pay for the house and it needed to burn." The affidavit also states that the woman says Cox "asked her many times if she would help burn it."
Court documents state that Jackson told multiple friends she was asked to burn the house by her mother so she could collect the "insurance money" and also "pay for a surgery." Investigators also detail in the affidavit that Jackson told a friend that she "burned the house by pouring gasoline inside it."
Nine people were called to the stand today according to McCurtain County District Attorney Mark Matloff. "They all contained pieces of the puzzle, all relevant, and things went as planned."
Jackson and Cox are both charged with one count of arson. They will be arraigned on June 4 - Jackson will be arraigned on the charges stemming from the horse case at that time as well.
