SAU to Award Scholarship in Memory of Credit Card

Through tragedy comes opportunity for a future Southern Arkansas University rodeo team member. A scholarship was established in honor of Credit Card, one of the five horses stolen in November 2011, but the only one not to make it back home to his family.

Support came from across the country to make the $15,000 goal a reality to start the endowment for the scholarship. The college says the scholarship will be awarded to a 2013 rodeo team member and any additional funds raised will be added to future scholarships.

The stolen Arkansas horse case that ended with Credit Card's savage death touched the nation. Donations, auctions, and even portraits have been established in memory of Shaun Smith's chestnut roping horse after he was brutally killed.

Former SAU rodeo team member Jaci Rae Jackson is charged in the case. She is scheduled to be back in court on July 19. Her Attorney Michael Lusk recently filed a motion for a change of venue. Her trial is currently scheduled for July 26 in Magnolia.

Jackson also faces charges in Oklahoma. Several co-defendants have also been charged in Arkansas and Oklahoma in the case.
