A new video tackles the abusive practice of soring and is exposing some of the gaited industry's dirty little secrets.
This illegal and abusive practice is utilized by unethical trainers and owners in place of training. Pain is used to artificially accentuate the horse's gait. This happens by creating a painful sensation as the horse's hoof hits the ground so the horse lifts its legs quicker and higher.
The Humane Society of the United States paid a $10,000 reward to the person that provided the evidence that led to spotted horse trainer Barney Davis' conviction. Davis was sentenced to a year in prison.
Two days later, a federal grand jury indicted four men including top Tennessee Walking Horse trainer Jackie McConnell. Their trial is scheduled for May.
